Questions and answers

Short, plain answers about what TalkerApp does, what it costs and what happens to your words.

The basics

What is TalkerApp?

TalkerApp is an app for writing and speaking. You type at your own pace. With the help of AI, it suggests the next words and whole sentences in Polish or English, and says your words in a voice you choose, including natural-sounding AI voices. It is text-based AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) for adults, in development for macOS and Windows.

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

TalkerApp is for adults who know what they want to say but cannot rely on verbal speech or fast typing. It works with text, so it is not made for people who communicate with symbols or pictures. Someone close to you can help you set it up.

What AAC is, and who it is for
What does it cost, and is anything locked?

Free costs nothing and is a complete tool for writing and speaking. Pro adds all cloud voices with emotion, the overlay (a keyboard for other apps), personas (a saved profile for each audience, such as family or work) and the Recording Studio, as a 12-month license for 2 computers that never renews by itself. We will share the price of Pro before launch. Writing and speaking are never locked: when a Pro license ends, TalkerApp keeps working as Free.

Which computers and phones does it run on?

Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and computers with 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. There is no version for Intel Macs or for Windows on ARM. iOS and Android are planned, with no dates yet, so for now TalkerApp runs on a computer only.

Privacy, keys and offline use

What happens to what I type?

Nothing you write leaves your computer until you switch a cloud service on with your own key. Then it gets the sentence to speak (with the Gemini voice, also text you are still typing), or for suggestions the last two paragraphs before your cursor and details such as your name. In the overlay, cloud suggestions send the text before your cursor in the other app (the last two paragraphs), whoever wrote it.

What leaves your computer, and when
What is “your own key”?

A key is a code you create in your own account on a cloud service’s website. It is not your account password: keep it private. You paste it into TalkerApp so the service can suggest words or say them aloud. TalkerApp keeps the key in your system’s password store (the Keychain on a Mac, Credential Manager on Windows).

Voices and your own key
Does it work without internet?

Yes. Writing, suggestions, phrases, history and your computer’s voices work without internet. So do local models, optional add-ons that improve suggestions and run on your computer, once you have downloaded one in the app. Only the cloud services you switch on with your own key need a connection.

Using TalkerApp

How can I type?

However suits you best: a physical keyboard, large on-screen keys with a mouse, or switch scanning, where one button picks the highlighted key. Scanning has not been tested with switch hardware yet. A hold time (dwell) and a tremor filter help when hands are not steady. You pick a suggestion with its number, Tab or a tap.

All the ways to type
Can I type into other apps?

That is what the overlay is for: a Pro on-screen keyboard that floats above other windows and types wherever it can find the text cursor (the caret). In the overlay, cloud suggestions send the text before your cursor in the other app (the last two paragraphs), whoever wrote it.

Can I use my own voice?

No, not at the moment. TalkerApp speaks with your computer’s own voices, free and instant, or with natural-sounding cloud voices that you connect with your own key. You can listen to a voice before you choose it and mark your favorites.

Launch and next steps

When is the launch, and can I download it today?

There is no launch date and nothing to download today. Test builds exist but are not yet signed with a security certificate, so your system warns you before opening one. The waitlist decides which version, Mac or Windows, we sign and release first: leave your e-mail and we will let you know when TalkerApp is ready for your computer.

Is there a version for therapists?

Yes. Therapists, above all those who work with AAC, can get a version with a separate profile for each person they work with: their phrases, dictionary, style and suggestions that learn from the way they write. Write to us at hello@gettalker.app. TalkerApp is not a medical app and does not replace an assessment by a specialist.
